Kassem Ghorayeb
Global Reservoir Engineering and Field Development Planning Advisor ,
SLB
After 16 years with Schlumberger, Kassem Ghorayeb joined the American University of Beirut as Assistant Professor at the Baha and Walid Bassatne Department of Chemical Engineering and Advanced Energy. His main research interests include oil and gas field development planning and CO2 Capturing and Sequestration.
At Schlumberger, Kassem held different technical positions in the UK (Principal Development Engineer, Abingdon Technology Centre), Saudi Arabia (Reservoir Engineering & EOR Program Manager, Schlumberger Dhahran Carbonate Research Center), Kuwait (Principal Reservoir Engineer and Reservoir Management Team Leader, North Kuwait Jurassic Project) and UAE (Reservoir Engineering Advisor, Abu Dhabi MEA Consulting Hub).
Prior to joining Schlumberger, Kassem worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the Reservoir Engineering Research Institute, Palo Alto, California, where he conducted research on compositional variation and fluid flow in homogeneous and fractured hydrocarbon reservoirs. In his assignment at RERI, Kassem contributed to the pioneering research on diffusion in multicomponent mixtures with application to compositional variation in hydrocarbon mixtures.
Kassem holds BS, MS, and PhD degrees in Fluid Mechanics from Paul Sabatier University, Toulouse, France. He is author and co-author of over 55 technical papers and holder of four US patents and multiple patent applications and is an active volunteer for SPE as technical editor, associate editor, events committee member and events chairman. Kassem is the winner of "The Chairman's Award, 2009", Schlumberger's highest possible recognition for his contribution to the North Kuwait Jurassic project.
Kassem is still active in the industry as Global Reservoir Engineering and Field Development Planning Advisor at Schlumberger (SLB). In this position, he contributes to challenging field development planning and integrated reservoir studies and CCUS projects in which his roles include hands-on reservoir engineering, team leading, business development, peer review and mentoring.
