Innovative Solutions to Scale Control

05 Jun 2024
Technical

As scale issues remain one of the biggest challenges in oilfield production, new technologies and innovations on scale prediction, scale risk evaluation, and scale risk monitoring are in high demand more than ever. This session will cover comprehensive models on scale prediction, understanding the role of water chemistry, particularly how high calcium concentration can impact barite scale prediction at high temperature and high pressure conditions, and utilization of X-Ray Fluorescence technology for production water composition monitoring to evaluate scale risks in each well on unmanned installations.

1100-1130: Invited Presentation - Scale Resilience: In Search of Comprehensive Models - Isaac Appelquist Løge, Benaiah Anabaraonye, Technical University of Denmark

1130-1200: SPE-218707 - Impact of High Calcium Concentrations on Barite Scale Prediction under High Temperature and High Pressure Conditions - Yu-Yi Shen, Guannan Deng, Xin Wang, Yuqing Ye, Amy Kan, Mason Tomson, Rice University

1200-1230: Invited Presentation - Use of X-Ray Fluorescence to Monitor Produced Water Composition and Sulphate Scaling Risks for Individual Wells on Unmanned Installations - Neil Goodwin, Gordon Graham, Scaled Solutions; Jone Waage, AkerBP

Alternate: Poster Presentation - The Metastability of Barium Sulphate at Low Temperatures and the Impact on Scaling Risk Assessments - David Nichols, Andrew Fyfe, Dario Frigo, Scaled Solutions
