Umar A. Al-Nahdi

Petroleum Engineering Application Systems Department Director, Aramco

Dr. Umar A. Al-Nahdi is a highly accomplished professional with over 20 years of experience in various upstream technology domains, including drilling and reservoir simulation digital technology. He has also played a key role in the development of Saudi Aramco's in-house reservoir simulator (POWERS™), the MRC/Complex Wells optimization, and other major projects. Umar is an expert in high performance computing, mathematical computation, reservoir simulation and modeling, and IR4.0 in reservoir engineering. Last year, Umar and the team deployed the second largest computer and the largest to run reservoir simulation model (Ghawar1).

Currently, serving as acting VP for Upstream Digital Center, and the Director for Petroleum Engineering Application Services Department at Saudi Aramco, Umar and his team have recently developed the industry-first GenAI and Metaverse.

Umar holds a B.S. in Computer Science from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, a M.S. in Petroleum Engineering from Heriot-Watt University, and a Ph.D. in Petroleum Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines. He has a strong educational background and is well-respected in his field for his expertise and contributions
