Description: The Montney/Duvernay are world class gas plays, yet their success has created a challenging pricing market. With a lack of reasonable egress, the two plays have not been able to help satiate the market’s continued growing demand for natural gas leading to reduced pricing, sometimes several dollars below NYMEX prices and oftentimes close to $0/mcf. Our panelists will be discussing the current North American market and ways we can "unlock the potential" to realize better pricing for NEBC and Alberta gas.”

Many new diagnostic tools have enabled a better understanding of the near and far-field interactions with the reservoir in the Duvernay and Montney formations. In this session, we will explore some case studies of diagnostic tools that have been leveraged by operators to better understand reservoir properties, frac interactions, and how to leverage this information to improve the development of their assets.

Topic 1: Current Technical Limitations with Lateral Length
Facilitators: Mike Davies, Turing Analytics; Steve Lewis, Kiwetinohk; Brad Nicholson, Baytex EnergyCascade Ballroom
Lateral length in the Duvernay and Montney has continually increased with new record laterals being drilled every year.
As perceived boundaries have been reached, once thought technical limitations have been exceeded and become the norm for execution. This session will explore industry trends and challenge participants to share their experiences, challenges and opportunities when extending reach and completing more formation per well.Topic 2: Casing Deformation - Discussion on Mechanisms and Mitigation Strategies
Facilitator: Chad Dallyn, Vermillion Energy; Peter Wagner, PETRONAS CanadaIvor Petrak Room
Casing deformation continues to be a problem for operators developing Montney and Duvernay formations, leading to increased capital costs and/or lost resource. In this breakout session we intend on having collaborative conversations around the physical mechanisms that cause casing deformation as well as the mitigation strategies used to address the problem. Are there methods/metrics that can be used to predict severity and/or frequency of casing deformation?Topic 3: Landing Zone Optimization, Field Level Pad Design to Meter Scale Wellbore Placement
Facilitator: Erik Munson, Shell; James Nasen, Tourmaline; Kris Watson, CorvaAlhambra Room
This workshop explores the process and workflow of Landing Zone Optimization; Overview and original design considerations, Process/Workflow deliberations, iterative/fine-tuning execution, and key considerations to optimizing success. The workshop will aim to unlock potential by collaborative multidisciplinary approach to Pad Design and Wellbore Placement.

Improving well performance and expected resource extraction in the Montney and Duvernay requires carefully thought-out workflows integrating multiple disciplines grounded in empirical and analytical evidence. This session will highlight novel workflows and data, including methods to quantify inter-well communication in multi-phase flow, methods to identify & diagnose wellbore integrity issues including casing deformation, and a study on the impact of thermal maturity on landing zone and completion fluids selection.

As Canadian energy assets continue to trade at a discount compared to their U.S. counterparts, investors face a critical decision: is this a unique opportunity to invest in the Montney and Duvernay plays? This session will examine how capital has been allocated to date in Canada's energy sector, capturing perspectives from both capital providers and recipients. We’ll discuss key challenges and opportunities that may shape future investment decisions and explore how the capital landscape in the last decade shaped operational strategies, with consideration to company size and risk tolerance.
Panelists will share insights on how these factors impact capital allocation today, and whether these investment gaps present opportunities for international dollars. This interactive discussion will delve into real-world experiences and strategies for positioning both large and small operators for future success in a competitive, ever-changing market.
Join us for an interactive discussion on navigating the challenges, seizing opportunities, and positioning for growth in the ever-evolving energy market.
