BIO
Dr. Issam Ismail is a Research Scientist with a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Minnesota. He has 8 years of experience in R&D, having served several product lines covering the spectrum from exploration-to-delivery and addressing clients from different industries including the energy sector. In addition, he has over 40 publications published in top tier journals in decarbonization and low-carbon materials.
Dr. Issam brings in a well-rounded experience in decarbonization solutions, CCUS and low carbon materials. With his knowledge in nanomaterials, bifunctional materials and composites, he has helped develop, characterize and application-test several candidate materials for adsorption, carbon capture and conversion applications – including graphene-based, silicon-based and metal nanoparticle-based composites.
In his career, he has delivered projects involving simulation and optimization of a range of processes including steam methane reforming (SMR), water-gas shift (WGS), ammonia synthesis and Integrated Gasification Carbon Cycles (IGCC), in addition to running technoeconomic and environmental impact analyses. He has also delivered AI-based SaaS projects to ADNOC, including a proof-of-concept on a flaring management solution based on computer vision AI, and a Business Intelligence center.
Dr. Issam is currently managing a portfolio of CCUS projects derisking the CO2 supply chain from source to sink for Phase 2 of Al Reyadah, which will be taking CO2 with varying levels of impurities from different emitters across ADNOC operations and injecting it subsurface in saline aquifers for sequestration.
Dr. Issam is an ADNOC alum. He graduated from Khalifa University “Petroleum Institute” with a BSc in Chemical Engineering, and a graduate of the ADNOC fellowship program in which he was sponsored for his PhD work and studies in the United States.
