Sunwoong Choi is a professor emeritus of Hannam University, Department of Polymer Science and Engineering in Daejeon, and a research professor at the Advanced Mechanical Design Research Center at Korea University in Seoul. He is also associated with the Advanced Materials Characterization Laboratory, School of Mechanical Engineering.
He has been working in the area of deformation and fracture of polymer and composite materials for the last 40 years. In particular, creep, stress-rupture, fatigue, and static and dynamic fractures have been his areas of interest, and many of them involved plastics and composite pipe structures. Currently, he is developing various international standards in ISO/TC 138 (Plastic Pipes) and ISO/TC 61 (Plastics) on test methods. He is also active in ASME BPVC and ASTM Committees for developing non-metallics pipe codes and standards.
