Session 4: Innovative Approaches to Surface and Subsurface Design and Layout Optimisation for Marginal and Mature Field Developments

07 Aug 2024
Merbau 2, Level 12
Technical Sessions

Session Managers: Siti Shafikah Md Daud, PETRONAS, Leong Dong Guo, PTTEP

Surface and subsurface design is a key part of field development projects, to receive, process and transport hydrocarbon and its byproducts throughout the operation life. The facility provides effective hydrocarbon containment and a safe environment for the people who operates it and the environment it is operating in. Therefore, it is important to design surface and develop a credible subsurface basis and consideration with safety and long-term operation in mind. However, the increasingly challenging operating environment the oil and gas industry are in requires companies to balance between field development objectives, design and operation requirements, commercial considerations, accelerated project delivery and risk management. Companies must apply innovative methods to build facilities that fulfil all safety, commercial and operational objectives and caters for future expansion needs with minimal impact to the environment.

Additionally, this session aims to further explore and enhance production from marginal and mature fields through implementing unconventional and innovative methods, applications of new technology in the commercially challenged environment as well as improving credibility of subsurface data.
