The majority of oil fields in Egypt are in production for a long time. The production profile has steadily declined. Most of the oil production are gained from reservoir rocks with excellent quality. Near field exploration with new idea is one way to increase the production, the other way is to develop the marginal quality reservoirs within the brown fields. In addition to the enhanced oil recovery which can increase the production of oil at relatively reasonable costs.

To increase investment in mature oil fields, the exploration and development agreement terms and conditions should be reviewed to meet the investment and commercial criteria to create a successful business opportunity and attract new investors to brown fields business in Egypt.

Wells planning and construction is an important phase for delivering successful petroleum projects and represents a big portion (30–40%) of petroleum project economics. The objective of well planning is to learn from offset wells, optimise well trajectory and understand PPFG operating window, prepare fit-for-purpose design and procedure to deliver safe, cost-effective and highly useable wellbores that will maximise reservoir access and production rate.

The workshop will address multiple drilling planning and construction aspects which are important for well engineering and operation community. The topics includes pore pressure and fracture gradient prediction, casing design for salt and deep water application, drilling fluids planning and management for deep water wells, rig preparation and inspection to deliver trouble-free and safe wells, and much more.

Two achieve great results, two things are needed; proper well planning and well construction.

Pushing the boundaries of oil and gas exploration and development wells to more challenging locations and harsher environments leads to exposure to greater uncertainties and necessitates robust risk mitigation strategies and techniques. Accordingly Well integrity (WI) is a growing concern related to both old and new producing fields, especially with many assets reaching or exceeding their operational life expectancy. A worldwide study of more than 380,000 wells from Canada, China, Netherlands, Offshore Norway, UK, and US revealed that approximately 7% of the wells had wellbore integrity failure (Davies et al., 2014). Well integrity issues are most commonly associated with cement quality, casing corrosion, dynamic drilling and production pressures, and completion and abandonment complexities. The failure to prioritise the integrity of assets leads not only to negative financial consequences but has the potential to cause serious damage to both humans and the wider environment. This session will discuss well integrity from different perspectives, including material selection, wear detection and diagnosis, cementing, and well completion.

The case histories session aims to delve into the latest innovations and techniques in the oil and gas drilling sector, focusing on optimising operations and overcoming challenges in various domains. It’ll encompass a comprehensive exploration of integrated drilling efficiency, managed pressure drilling (MPD) strategies, and core recovery methodologies tailored for unconsolidated formations. Additionally, it will address the revolutionary ESP (Electric Submersible Pump) gun hanger technology designed to streamline production processes. Furthermore, we will scrutinise the complexities of deep well casing integrity, specifically examining strategies to mitigate casing leaks in challenging environments.

Finally, we’ll explore the intricacies of casing design optimisation tailored to the unique geological and operational considerations of the Gulf of Suez region. Attendees will gain valuable insights and practical knowledge from industry experts, fostering collaboration and innovation in the ever-evolving landscape of oil and gas exploration and production.
