AI – The Coming Multi-Car Collision
When OpenAI unveiled its new ChatGPT interface, it ushered in a new era of computing, creating a tectonic shift in the ways we gather information. From getting assistance writing computer code, speeding up work processes, and even building resumes and cover letters, ChatGPT received swift adoption from millions of people with the potential to streamline thousands of work processes. But what about the dark side of AI? Experts warn of massive job dislocation, of certain fields of employment being phased out causing massive job losses. How is this bearing out in reality today? Is genAI content really appreciated? What are the business ethics and security considerations? How will this affect government policies? And what about the massive resources (water and electricity) required to enable the transition to mass AI? Will all go smoothly, or will the trifecta of employment, government, and resource availability end up on a collision course?

Topic 1: Down the Rabbit Hole: Challenge of Working with Gen AI Outputs
This breakout session centres around what to do with generative AI outputs. How do you control the results when you are dealing with a drunk probability machine? How do you deal with hallucinations, unsafe content, and potential leaks of personal information? What about images and tables? What do you do when prompt engineering breaks your production pipeline? How should we think about security issues and avoid leaking your confidential data to the world?
Facilitators: Scott McKean, Databricks; Mike Davies, EVA by Turing Analytics
Topic 2: Data Science Made Easy and for Everyone
In this session, we will explore the concept of data and AI democratization. How does the next generation of generative AI further remove barriers to data science and analytics? Can AI replace traditional programming fundamentals that used to be significant barrier for entry into analytics? How does this shift the traditional data science paradigms for practitioners and how do organization adapt?
Facilitators: Grant Byrnes, Enervus; Danial Kaviani, EY; David Vu, Suncor
Topic 3: Cross-Border Insights: Navigating Data Mindsets in Canada and the USA
Explore the contrasting mindsets and cultural approaches to data analytics in the oil and gas industries of Canada and the USA. This breakout session will delve into how regional values, regulatory landscapes, and operational philosophies shape the way companies leverage data to drive innovation and efficiency. Join us to uncover insights, share experiences, and discuss strategies that bridge these differences for competitive advantage
