About

Despite the momentum towards carbon storage, the Asia Pacific oil and gas industry faces several challenges hindering widespread adoption, including high capital costs associated with carbon storage implementation, uncertain regulatory frameworks, and insufficient infrastructure. Additionally, the inherent complexities of geological storage and the need for greater public awareness compound the industry's challenges, necessitating concerted efforts to address these multifaceted issues.

In response to these mounting challenges, the industry is witnessing a surge in technological advancements aimed at optimising carbon storage processes. Innovative approaches, such as enhanced oil recovery (EOR) coupled with carbon dioxide (CO2) injection, carbon capture from industrial sources, and geological storage in depleted oil and gas reservoirs or deep saline formations, are gaining traction. Moreover, breakthroughs in measurement, monitoring, and verification (MMV) technologies are improving the reliability and efficiency of carbon storage operations, bolstering investor confidence and regulatory compliance.

At this pivotal juncture, the industry stands poised for a transition towards sustainable energy practices, with carbon storage emerging as a linchpin in the decarbonisation agenda. By navigating industry challenges, capitalising on technological innovations, and fostering collaborative partnerships, the region can chart a path towards a more resilient and environmentally responsible energy future.

The SPE Workshop: Carbon Storage and Management provides a platform to facilitate knowledge exchange, encourage strategic partnerships, and inspire actionable steps to accelerate the adoption of scalable carbon storage solutions while meeting global climate commitments.

COUNTDOWN TO THE EVENT

ATTENDING THIS WORKSHOP SUPPORTS THE E&P INDUSTRY

The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) is a not-for-profit organisation. Income from this event will be invested back into SPE to support many other Society programmes.

When you attend an SPE event, you help provide even more opportunities for industry professionals to enhance their technical and professional competence. Scholarships, certification, the Distinguished Lecturer programme, and SPE’s energy education programme Energy4me® are just a few examples of programmes supported by SPE.
