Pioneering CCS/CCUS Innovations for a Sustainable Energy Future

CCS/CCUS technologies have emerged as critical solutions for mitigating greenhouse gas emissions, particularly in the Asia Pacific region, characterised by rapid industrialisation and urbanisation. However, several challenges impede the widespread adoption of these technologies. One major obstacle is the high upfront costs associated with implementing CCS/CCUS infrastructure, including capture technologies and storage facilities. Additionally, regulatory frameworks governing CCS/CCUS projects vary across countries, posing legal and financial uncertainties for investors and project developers.

To address these challenges and accelerate CCS/CCUS deployment in the Asia Pacific region, stakeholders must prioritise collaboration and innovation. Governments, industries, and research institutions need to work in partnership to establish supportive policies, such as carbon pricing mechanisms and incentives for CCS/CCUS projects. Furthermore, technological advancements in carbon capture and utilisation techniques are crucial for reducing costs and enhancing efficiency. Investing in research and development initiatives aimed at improving capture technologies, optimising storage capacities, and exploring new utilisation pathways will be instrumental in unlocking the full potential of CCS/CCUS in the region.

APCC 2025 will examine the integrated value chain of CCS/CCUS, considering emissions across various industries. Furthermore, emphasis will be placed on both upstream and downstream sectors, addressing challenges involved in developing capturing sites, establishing efficient transportation and pipeline infrastructure, designing hubs, and creating networks for the effective deployment of CCS/CCUS. By fostering an enabling environment for CCS/CCUS development and embracing innovative solutions, the Asia Pacific region will pave the way for a more sustainable energy future while driving economic growth and climate resilience.
