2024 SPE CTCE Student Development Summit
Monday, 25 November to Thursday, 28 November 2024

Vision

Since its inception in 2005, the Young Members Activities series has grown rapidly in size, global representation and importance, offering a business platform for experts, researchers and leaders of the oil and gas industry to network, recruit and share technical and industrial information with high school and university students. SPE continues to play an important role in spreading the word and educating students on the latest technologies and give extraordinary examples from major companies within the oil and gas industry.

What is the SPE CTCE Student Development Summit?

.

The Summit is set to be a transformative event for young minds about to enter the industry, bringing together up to 50 top-performing undergraduate students from the Russia and Caspian Region who are studying geosciences and engineering.

The Summit will not only enhance students' knowledge and skills but also foster valuable networking opportunities with like-minded peers and experienced professionals. The impact will extend beyond the individual participants as it serves to strengthen the entire community by inspiring and empowering the next generation of professionals. At the same time, the students will be interacting with many major industry employers through field trips, attending interactive sessions as well as having an opportunity to introduce themselves to the world during their visit to CTCE.

Programme Overview

The 4-day Summit will take place alongside CTCE, during which students will participate in an engaging programme led by professionals in the industry. Activities and sessions may include:

  • Professional and technical skills sessions
  • Networking with companies in the industry, young professionals and other students
  • Team building, group work and presentations
  • Field trips to local companies
  • A visit to the CTCE Exhibition

Below is an example of a typical 4-day Agenda.  The 2024 agenda may differ.

Day 1 – Field Trips and Energy4me Session

Students will be invited to an exclusive industry-focused field trip. After which they will attend an Energy4me programme.

Day 2 – Professional Development and Speaker Sessions

Students will start their day with the opening ceremony of the SPE Caspian Technical Conference and Exhibition and the Executive Plenary Session. After the lunch, students will have the chance to meet professionals and network. The Student Development Summit Sessions will officially commence and focus on building leadership and communication skills, whilst offering the opportunity to learn from industry leaders.

Day 3 – Conference and Exhibition

Visit CTCE with a complimentary Full Delegate pass where they will have access to technical sessions and the exhibition.

Day 4 – Presentation Contest, Judging & Awards

Student teams will present the final team project to a panel of qualified judges from the industry.  The top three teams will be awarded.

Student Nominations

Sections with the support of University Faculty Advisors will nominate students who should meet all of the below criteria. In general, the nominated students should be top-performing students—those who have shown excellence in leadership, participation in extracurricular activities, as well as academic performance. Students in their senior years of study (3rd or final year) tend to benefit more from this type of programme as they are about to enter the professional world. Our aim is to host students who excel in a variety of areas, not solely based on academic grading.

Minimum criteria include:

  • Current SPE student member.
  • Enrolled in an undergraduate programme focused on geosciences and engineering.
  • Part of a qualified SPE Student Chapter from within the Russia and Caspian Region.
  • Must not have participated in previous SPE University Programmes/Education Weeks.
  • Be within the top 40% of their class and be able to demonstrate this with documentation.
  • Be active with extra-curricular activities – for example, should have in the past or currently be involved with the SPE chapter or volunteer with another organization/club within the university.
  • Must not have participated in previous SPE University Programmes/Education Weeks
  • Students should also be aware of current sanction laws which may not allow them to participate in this event. Details of current laws can be found here: http://www.spe.org/about/laws.php

Section Officers will be contacted via email once nominations open.
